One of my favorite things to teach when I taught Kindergarten was reading, followed by writing.
Our reading program started by the third week of school after the students were mostly settled into the routines, transitions and everything Kindergarten.
Over the years, I tried a few different ways, small groups, half groups, as well as one on one. In the end I found a mix of these helped.
We all know that students need modelled, guided and independent lessons.
The best way to teach emergent readers to read and write, in my experience is with basic sentence structures.
At my school, we called them ‘level 0’ because often level 1 (or level A depending on where you’re from) was too difficult. I taught in a school with 97% non-English Speaking Backgrounds (NESB), so this was a vital feature of our reading and writing program.
To help busy, tired and exhausted teachers, I placed all the resources you need to teach a range of basic sentence structures for the first months of the kindergarten year in one file!
Now I have everything ready to go!
The I can Read Emergent Center Activities – School Themed BUNDLE is a comprehensive file full of posters for modeling, books, center activities, vocabulary, printables and loads more.
Reading strategies for the emergent reader.
Here is some feedback.
“This bundle is amazing! It is very thorough and well thought out. Thank you!”
“Excited to use this with my kids who keep saying “I can’t read”
“Love the posters, the books and everything about this absolutely gorgeous packet, thank you so much for creating it and sharing your great emergent readers!”
Students will also have resources to work on independently or with minimal guidance with these printables.
I have bundled everything to help you save a few dollars!
