It’s almost Mother’s Day. A big happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers reading this post.
In my opinion, mothers are to be cherished and loved. For me, my mother is the sugar in my life. She sprinkles sweet drops of candy with her smile and her sincere touch.
Please don’t take motherhood for granted for life sometimes pushes us down a road we don’t want to travel. My mum has had Dementia for 5 years and she is only 69. She doesn’t remember my name or my husband nor what she did 2 minutes ago but the connection via her eyes is still there. Sometimes it fades and sometimes it shines.
My mum has always been not just my mum but my heart. She is so much of who I am, and I miss her.
So much of who I am comes directly from my mum as she has woven the fibres of my personal traits, morals, beliefs, ideas and attitudes. She is with me everyday.
What parts of yourself come directly from how your mum has loved you? Conversely how has the way you love your child(ren) directly shaped them so far?
Please cherish your mother and the blessing of motherhood.
There are so many ways to cherish, remember and document motherhood.
Here are some ideas:
Be sure to video your family regularly.
Write letters of gratitude.
Say thank you often.
Watch for moments to praise their thoughtfulness.
Squeeze them tight and tell them exactly how you feel.
Never take your mother or your own children for granted.
Practise being grateful for your family each day by stating to yourself and them I am grateful to…. because….
Many of these quotes sum up the love I have for my beautiful mother.
Happy Mother’s Day!

Emma,
My mother too has dementia. Each day I wonder who she will remember and who will have slipped away. She no longer recognizes her only grandchild. I think what you have posted is very touching, it brought tears to my eyes so I had to leave you a message letting you know that our mothers are still our angels and they need us more now more than ever.
