Fire Safety Week with Sparky the Fire Dog – Printables for Grades 1-2
Fire Safety Week is observed October 6th through October 12th this year.
This is a great opportunity to introduce or revisit fire danger, fire awareness and fire safety concepts with your students.
The National Fire Protection Association has supportive tools for Fire Safety Week including videos for children and a quiz. Click here to go to their page link.
I love using Sparky the Fire Dog as a responsible character for teaching young children about fire safety.
Sparky has his very own website with loads of fun activities, interactives and of course, the story of Sparky the Fire Dog.

To expand on Sparky’s fire safety message and the objectives of Fire Safety/Prevention Week, I have put together a resource for first and second graders that is based on the story of Sparky the Fire Dog.

Here’s some of the wonderful feedback received from our fire safety mini unit.
“This ties in so wonderfully with a site that I just received at work on Friday, which led to me being on TPT to come up with something for Fire Safety. I knew the minute I previewed and saw the book you were using this would be PERFECT!!”
“Wow, what a great idea. This is such a practical resource as it integrates reading skills as well as fire safety. Great job.”

As teacher librarian I am always after resources to help out classroom teachers, my stage 1 teachers will love these as they fit nicely with their unit on workers in the community as well as safety lessons
