Top Shelf Books

How do you organize your personal collection of books? 

Do you leave them all at school or at home?

What are your all time favorite books?

For me, I set aside all of my all time favorites, classics and most cherished books on the top shelf of my bookcase.

I absolutely love children’s books (and wooden toys, stationery and puppets) and can never stop hunting for them.  I often find them on sale, on eBay or at second-hand shops or yard sales.

Where do you find your books?

I purchase a classic book based on a basic set of criteria.

1. It has to be attached to memory. A memory of reading it to children and their responses. It may be also a childhood memory of mine, like the Peter Rabbit books by Beatrix Potter.

2. The children and I must love the story. 

3. The book has to have a a memorable storyline.

4. I adore books with captivating illustrations like, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

This list of books would be ideal for any time of the year including:

Summer break
Bedtime stories
Independent reading
Shared reading
Listening centers
Guided Reading
Reading to teddy bears
and so much more.

Search the titles below on YouTube as many of them are listed as videos. You could also search eBooks on Kindle for the book titles.

I recently began looking out for audio books. There are loads of books that also have a CD with the story narrated. I think it is important for children to be read to by other readers. 

I especially love fairytales and you can find many of these with an audio CD these days.

My favorite book of all time is The Little Red Hen. I have a few different version as you would expect.
