Phoneme blending segmenting and adding word work activity

Phonemic awareness skills are the foundation for competent readers. Students who have mastered these skills in the first two years of formal schooling often progress easily with their reading skills, as they have developed one of the essential reading foundations; phonemic awareness.

Word work activity to focus on phoneme blending, segmenting and deletion

The best part is that you can implement this with any word list that you use in your classroom.

Students could work in groups of 3-4, as apposed to pairs.

Furthermore, you could also use this idea with sentence construction. I love using bottle caps, and collect them like a crazy woman! I like to use them for sight word games. You can easily write on them with a permanent marker. Write a sentence out, using one bottle cap per word. Place them in the soap container, and play as stated above.

If you think the shaking of the containers is too noisy, you can glue foam or felt to the inside.
